Kentucky Derby


 

 Traditional Mint Julep: 

  • What you will need- Bourbon, fresh mint, good sugar, crushed ice, powder sugar 
  • 2 oz Woodford Reserve 
  • 1 bar spoon of sugar  (typically 1/4 of a teaspoon) or to taste
  • 5-6 fresh mint leaves 

gently slap your mint leaves to embrace those gorgeous oils, throw in a collins glass or julep cup, top with your sugar and gently muddle, add whiskey and crushed ice. Stir till glass is frosted. Add more crushed exceeding over the top to create a dome. Garnish with mint sprig and douse with powdered sugar.


 

 PPBC Bloody Mary:

  • 2 oz Absolut Texas- cucumber serrano flavored vodka 
  • 2 olives 2 jalapenos muddled
  • 4 dashes angostura bitters 
  • 4 dashes peychaud bitters
  • 3 dashes of tabasco
  • 4 oz zing zang bloody mary mix 
  • celery salt and tajin for rim 
  • pickled okra and carrots for garnish

rim your pint glass with celery salt and tajin, muddle olives and jalapeno, 4 dashes of angostura and peychaud creole bitters, 3 dashes of tabasco then add your vodka and mary mix, add ice and stir well garnish with pickled okra and carrot 


PPBC Mint Julep:

  • 2 oz Mint Julep Makers Mark or Standard Makers Mark
  • 1/2 oz Mint simple syrup 
  • 3 mint leaves 
  • 1  oz topo chico 

Mint Simple syrup- 2:1 ratio sugar to water once brought to a boil then simmer till viscous or coats the back of a spoon. Turn off heat. Throw in 1 dozen mint leaves to steep cover with kitchen towel. Steep for about 15 mins or until turns green. Take leaves out and  store in squeeze bottle or jar in fridge up to 1 month.
